Why your mission statement matters, now more than ever

Let’s face it. There are no right words to say. The world has been turned upside down and it’s bringing up all of these feelings. Fear of the unknown, anger at the situation, loneliness because we cannot be close to our loved ones.

These are unprecedented times and we have to support one another.

We have the chance to be someone’s certain in all of this uncertainness we’re currently living in. Even if we feel like we don’t have the words. Even if we feel like we don’t know what to offer, or if we should. What we can do, in the midst of all of this uncertainty, is be of service however we can. I believe we have mission statements for a reason. It’s the why behind our businesses.

Your mission statement matters, now more than ever.

There are some great examples of brands, big and small, stepping up to be of service and give back in the midst of this pandemic:

  1. Hand sanitizer is being made by brands like Anheuser-Busch. It’s beer, sure, but their mission is about bringing people together for a better world.

  2. Surgical masks are being made by brands like Dior, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more who are pivoting their normal efforts to meet a need.

  3. At home workouts are being live streamed at little to no cost by gyms like Orangetheory. They’re committed to helping in or outside the studio.

  4. There are businesses stepping up to offer advice and resources to help companies and employees making the transition to work from home.

Brands stand out by showing what they stand for, especially now.

One of my favorite quotes is, “We rise by lifting others.” I see so many brands embodying this sentiment worldwide. We’re all collectively experiencing this pandemic, yet there are people who are putting the needs of others before their own. This, to me, is the point of being in business. Yes, we need to make money, but we also need to remember that we’re supposed to be of service.

People are paying attention to brands more than ever.

People are looking at brands that are stepping up to help. When we share who we are and what we stand for, we connect to people on a deeper level. That’s what people want. They want to connect. They want to know your mission.

So, what’s my mission? I’m here because I believe we all have something incredibly important to offer the world as business owners. Sure we’re solving problems but, more than that, we’re serving people. And sometimes we just need the words to let people know we have what they’re looking for.

Maybe there are no right words to say right now. Maybe there are just your words. And for the people who need to what you have to offer, that’s more than enough. It may be exactly what they need to hear.

If I can offer anything, it’s words. I’ve been talking to other business owners, and people just don’t know what to say right now to their clients. It’s why I created this free resource to help you say what you do (in any situation).
